It's hard to control what's in your world when opportunities arise that you aren't sure will be there in a year from now. It's hard to know what to say 'yay' to, and what to say either 'nay' to, or 'maybe later.' These are hard decisions but they are important. You're no good to anyone if you try to do IT ALL right NOW and collapse under the weight of it all. You don't have to RACE through life. You can put some things off for now or even completely. Your HEAD needs some SPACE without being cluttered with all the people, projects, opportunities and obligations that may be on your plate now or over the next three years. Consider this Indian adage: "When the MIND HURTS, the BODY CRIES." If you don't stop to give your mind and yourself some attention, your body will physically start to hurt. Your immune system will not be as strong. You might start making mistakes. I've had poor mental health all my life. Eventually my racing mind and cluttered thoughts manifested in my home. Because I didn't deal with my mind enough (there wasn't good help available for the first 30 years of my life), I've ended up with a cluttered home. I hate it. I know that the disorganisation in my home is a pure reflection of what was happening in my head. It's holding up a mirror to show me what happens when you don't listen to your mind. Your analogy of pushing that pile of rocks up a hill is spot on. It's similar to the analogy of "How do you eat an elephant?" Answer: "One bite at a time." And you can always STOP eating that elephant from time to time. I have finally learnt (now in my late 50s) that I can think only of today. If I look back I'm likely to ruminate on decisions I have made. If I look at how far I have to go, it will crush me. So I choose to be mindful and present each day. Small goals. Breathe. Sit. Walk. Play a little (for me, it's music or gardening or creating). Do some things that bring joy today. Lovely things. Notice the ordinary and be mesmerised by how truly extraordinary it is. Allow yourself to BE. Don't just hope that you'll remember to take those moments. PLAN that time into your day. PLAN these moments into your life. Into your week. Into the next month. PLAN to make yourself a priority. The things you have learnt because of this experience are good and valuable. It's good that you live in a time where it's okay to not be okay. It's good that you can share your experience openly and pass on your learning. Your experiences with this may help you to live a better and balanced life. It may make you a better person. A better musician. I was a music teacher for over 30 years and I stopped taking time to enjoy music. It became just 'work' for me. But you have the chance now to do better than I did. You have the chance to change your approach. Best of all, you have the chance to express authentic emotions in your songs. This is good. This was good that you have learnt this early. Ok....your definition of metal and my definition of metal are way way WAY different. This goes as hard as it can....but it is not metal. Not even remotely close. Take it from a metal head of 50 years, who also plays drums ,and has been playing thrash, death, and technical death metal in various bands since the 80s. When one says metal, i don't think Evanescence, or dad rock like Stained. I think METAL, like Fit For An Autopsy, Slayer, Slaughter To Prevail, Lorna Shore, Cannibal Corpse, Death, Deicide, Pantera, etc. Not one blast beat or growl or false fold vocalization was heard in this rendition. It is quite good. I'm not saying this wasn't a stellar performance by both of you, but this is not metal. Also....the RAW DOG, NO HOLDS BARRED QUEEN EXTRAORDINAIRE of metal vocals is a tiny little woman named Tatiana Shmayluk from the Ukrainian deathcore band Jinjer. Give them a listen. Her voice will blow your mind...in a good way. Little tidbit concerning metal. If there is ZERO double kick going on with the drums, it's probably not metal( excluding Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath). Even Nickleback, a radio dad rock band most people either love or loathe ( I'm in the loathe category) at least incorporates 2 bass drums on occasion. Another tidbit about metal....it isn't radio friendly. You're never going to hear Meshuggah on your favorite rock station unless that station is ZRock....from the mid 80s to 90s....which i believe is now defunct due to the PMRC. Thanks for the upload Malinda. PS. If you want it to be metal, it needs more time changes ( like Jazz), crunchy earth opening riffs, blast beats, syncopation with guitar and drums, polyrhythms played on top of each other, a much faster pace, double kick, and an occasional "BLEGH!". It should also be heavier than a super massive black hole in the center of a galaxy. As good as this is vocally, it lacks the weight to be metal. It's a bit light. See the song Heaviest Matter Of The Universe by Gojira for comparison in weight. 😊😊
